Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Will Cherry scored 16 points as the Montana
Grizzlies continued their dominance in Big Sky play with an 81-68 victory over
the Portland State Vikings at the Stott Center.
Cherry also collected team-highs in rebounds (seven) and assists (six) for
Montana (15-4, 11-0 Big Sky) which has won 11 straight. Mathias Ward added 15
points, Keron Deshields chipped in 13 off the bench and Spencer Coleman tacked
on 12 as well for the Grizzlies.
Aaron Moore had 14 points and Gary Winston and Martin Whitmore each added 10
for Portland State (5-13, 3-8). Whitmore was also a rebound shy of a
double-double for the Vikings who have lost five straight.
Montana led 39-31 at halftime after shooting 48.3 percent from the field
while making good on 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. Portland State shot just 37.9
percent in the opening period.
Although the Vikings improved to 57.7 percent shooting in the final 20 minutes
it was no match for the Grizzlies who hit 66.7 percent of their shots after
halftime.
Montana outscored Portland State 17-4 on points off turnovers to overcome a
32-23 deficit on the boards.
