Riverside, CA (Sports Network) - Stephen Maxwell scored a game-high 17 points
as the Cal State Northridge Matadors captured a 69-53 win over the UC
Riverside Highlanders in Big West Conference action at the Student Recreation
Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Matadors (12-11, 3-8 Big West), winners
of two straight and three of the last four, were Brandon Perry and Josh Greene
with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Tre Hale-Edmerson contributed a team-best
10 rebounds.
The Highlanders (5-17, 2-8), losers of four in a row and seven of eight, were
led by Chris Harriel with 16 points, followed by Chris Patton with 11, but he
was also guilty of six turnovers in the setback.
UCR led by as many as five points in the first half, but the team shot only
30.8 percent from the floor in the period, allowing the visitors to move out
to a 28-21 edge at the break.
In the second half CSUN pulled away with an impressive 60.0 percent from the
field, en route to the 16-point win.
The Matadors shot only 4-of-16 beyond the arc on the night, but forced 13
turnovers and held a 36-27 advantage on the glass.
