Provo, UT (Sports Network) - Matt Carlino scored a season-high 28 points as
BYU Cougars downed the Santa Clara Broncos, 96-79, in a West Coast Conference
bout at the Marriott Center.
For the Cougars (17-7, 8-2 WCC), Tyler Haws added 24 points, Josh Sharp
chipped in 14 and Brandon Davies posted a double-double with 16 points and 11
rebounds.
Kevin Foster led the Broncos (18-6, 6-3) with 18 points and nine assists,
while Marc Trasolini finished with 15 points, Evan Roquemore delivered 14,
Raymond Cowels III added 13 points and Branden Clark tallied 11.
The Cougars connected on 55.6 percent of their field goal tries, including 2-
of-5 from 3-point range in the first half. Santa Clara kept pace by knocking
down 7-of-12 from 3-pointer distance as part of a 44.1 percent shooting
performance as the Cougars grabbed a 47-46 lead at the break.
In the second half, BYU put together a 14-1 run early on to take over the
game. The Cougars built up a 23-point lead at one point and cruised the rest
of the way.
BYU shot a season-best 58.3 percent from the field en route to its highest
point total in a West Coast Conference game since joining the league last
season. The Cougars dominated in the paint, outscoring the Broncos 50-20.
