Santa Clara, CA (Sports Network) - Beau Levesque poured in 24 points off the
bench as the Saint Mary's Gaels completed an 84-63 rout of the Santa Clara
Broncos in a West Coast Conference tilt at the Leavey Center.
Brad Waldow contributed 14 points and eight rebounds for SMC (20-4, 9-1 WCC),
while Mitchell Young tallied 12 points and nine boards. Matthew Dellavedova
finished with just four points after failing to make any of his four field
goal attempts, but he made an impact by dealing out nine of the Gaels' 21
assists.
Evan Roquemore paced Santa Clara (17-8, 5-5) with 18 points on 5-of-12
shooting from the field. Raymond Cowels III added 14 points, Marc Trasolini
netted 13, and Kevin Foster tallied 10 points to go along with five assists
for the Broncos in their second consecutive setback.
The Gaels received a huge lift early on as their bench outscored Santa Clara's
reserves, 22-0, to help SMC take a 41-34 lead into halftime. The Broncos shot
just 37.9 percent from the field while allowing the visitors to connect on
57.7 percent of their field goal tries, including 6-of-10 from beyond the arc
in the first half.
SMC matched its first half clip by going 6-of-10 from 3-point range after the
break to outscore Santa Clara by 14 points over the final 20 minutes on its
way to its eighth win in a row.
The Gaels held a dominant, 37-19 edge in the rebounding battle and outscored
Santa Clara, 36-9, from beyond the arc in the contest.
