Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - The Xavier Musketeers coasted past the
Fordham Rams to a 79-66 decision as Semaj Christon tallied 19 points to lead
five players in double-figure scoring in an Atlantic-10 Conference clash at
the Cintas Center.
Christon was 6-of-10 from the field with five assists for Xavier (13-9, 6-3
A-10), which won its second in a row and third in the last four games. Justin
Martin scored 16 points while Travis Taylor, Dee Davis, and Jeff Robinson
added 10 each. Taylor grabbed nine rebounds while Martin pulled down seven
boards and registered two blocks.
Mandell Thomas was the game's top scorer, managing 23 points with five assists
for the Rams (6-18, 2-7), who took their fifth consecutive loss and eighth in
the last nine games. Branden Frazier had 11 points while Ryan Canty led all
players on the boards with 10 rebounds.
After shooting 52.0 percent from the floor in the first half, the Musketeers
held a 38-32 lead at intermission.
In the second half, Xavier scored 18 points at the free-throw line and
outscored Fordham 41-34 to extend its lead.
The Musketeers earned a 35-27 rebounding edge and earned 16 more chances at
the free-throw line to outscore the Rams, 27-17, at the charity stripe.
