Troy, AL (Sports Network) - Hunter Williams scored a game-high 20 points for
Troy as the Trojans dismissed the FIU Panthers, 69-61, in a Sun Belt
Conference battle at Trojan Arena.
Also scoring in double figures for Troy (11-15, 6-9 Sun Belt) were Emil Jones
and Deonata Jethroe with 17 and 11 points, respectively, the former also
clearing a game-high nine rebounds as they snapped a two-game slide.
The Panthers (13-12, 8-8) were paced by Cameron Bell who delivered 12 points
off the bench, while Jerome Frink tallied 11 and Tymell Murphy 10 points and
five assists before fouling out in the team's second straight setback.
FIU shot only 34.5 percent from the floor in the first half, which included a
disappointing 2-of-12 effort beyond the arc, which allowed the Trojans to grab
a 29-23 advantage at the break.
The Trojans exploded with 61.9 percent accuracy from the field in the second
half, adding another 12-of-16 precision at the free-throw line, in order to
reel in the eight-point victory.
The difference in the meeting took place at the charity stripe where the
Panthers were outscored by a 13-5 margin.
