Newark, DE (Sports Network) - Andre Nation's dunk just before the buzzer
lifted the James Madison Dukes to a thrilling 72-71 win over the Delaware Blue
Hens in a Colonial Athletic Association thriller at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Nation had missed all three of his field goal attempts before his last second
basket gave James Madison (16-12, 10-5 CAA) its second straight victory.
Rayshawn Goins registered a double-double of 19 points and 10 boards while
Devon Moore also scored 19 points to go along with six assists. A.J. Davis
provided a spark off the Dukes' bench with 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting from
the floor.
Devon Saddler paced the Blue Hens (14-13, 9-5) with 23 points and he also
grabbed eight rebounds. Saddler has now scored in double-figures in 33
consecutive games. Kyle Anderson contributed 16 points, Jarvis Threatt netted
12 points and Jamelle Hagins grabbed 11 boards as Delaware had its three-game
winning streak snapped.
Delaware got off to a good start as it jumped out to a 13-2 lead by the 14:20
mark of the first period. The Dukes fought back by hitting 5-of-10 from beyond
the arc and managed to take a narrow 38-36 lead into the intermission.
Delaware connected on 44 percent of its field goal tries and converted 12-
of-15 attempts at the charity stripe in the opening 20 minutes.
The Blue Hens opened up the second stanza on an 18-5 run to take an 11-point
lead with just under 14 minutes left in regulation, but JMU rallied once
again. The Dukes were able to go ahead, 70-66, with four minutes showing on
the clock after Ron Curry drilled a clutch 3-pointer. Saddler scored five
consecutive points to give Delaware a one-point edge before Nation's game
ending slam dunk with 0.6 seconds remaining. Both sides scored 14 second
chance points after halftime.
With the win, JMU completed the season series sweep of Delaware.
