Blacksburg, VA (Sports Network) - Erick Green scored 26 points as the Virginia
Tech Hokies downed the Florida State Seminoles, 80-70, in an Atlantic Coast
Conference duel at Cassell Coliseum.
Green, the NCAA's scoring leader, went 8-of-17 from the floor and hit all nine
shots from the free-throw line for Virginia Tech (12-15, 3-11 ACC) which ended
a nine-game losing streak. C.J. Barksdale was just short of a double-double
with 17 points and nine rebounds and Robert Brown tallied 11 points off the
bench as well for the Hokies.
Okaro White managed a double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds), Devon Bookert
dropped in 14 points and Aaron Thomas provided 10 points for Florida State
(14-13, 6-8) which has lost four of its last five.
At the end of the first half Virginia Tech clung to a 28-26 lead after
shooting 42.9 percent from the field while limiting the Seminoles to just
eight field goals.
The Hokies shot 59.1 percent from the field in the second frame and also
knocked down 23-of-26 attempts from the free-throw line to collect the win.
Virginia Tech outscored Florida State both in the paint (37-26) and from the
free-throw line (25-13).
