LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - It's hard to imagine what it would feel like to be the fastest runner in the state, but Central High's Tre James earned that title, and now he's heading to an even bigger stage, UALR.
The Tigers stand out has been in love with running since taking home hardware in grade school.
"I've always been able to run - growing up elementary. Field day I'd come home with first place medals."
His bling collection has only grown, because now, Tre is the fastest in the state.
"It's great breaking records and great things. I see people on TV doing it myself is a great experience."
James ran a 10-74 in the state track meet and took home first. He said when he finally realized he won, he was speechless.
"I heard the time and I recognized that was the fastest time in the state and then winning you know I just didn't know what to say."
His resume is jaw dropping. He's 3-time conference and all-state, he set a school record in the 4 by 1, and he's a two time state champ in the four by one.
Tre's time at Central high school is just the starting block of his career. In the fall he'll be crossing the finish line at UALR on a full ride. But he plans to take his talent all the way to the Olympics.
"I hope to get my times down like real fast times in the nation and be in the NCAA championship. If I made it to the Olympics then I finally reached my dream, my goal that I made a long time ago."
All achievements aside, with his family just a hop, skip, and a jump away, he's happy to not be missing too much of his mom's cooking.
