Building friendships across Arkansas at The First Tee

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - School is out and kids across Arkansas are trying to stay busy.

A great way for kids to burn some energy during the summer months is to sign up for a camp.

The First Tee Golf Camp is a great way for kids to improve their skills and make a few friends.

There's about 50 campers that come here week in and week out, and they come from all different backgrounds all across Arkansas.

THV found two campers who you would never really put together, but they've become the best of friends.

Andrew is Ethan's biggest fan. "I think he's gonna be pretty good - because he's pretty good right now."

And Ethan wants to be just like Andrew.

They've become partners in crime on the golf course. Andrew has kind of taken Ethan under his wing.

"He didn't like to talk to many people but now that I am his friend he'll talk to me. He'll hang around me and I think that's a good thing to have and a good way to start out his life because he's young," said Andrew.

The thing is, these two would have never met if it wasn't for The First Tee golf program. First tee aims to bring kids from all over Arkansas with different backgrounds to one place.

Thanks to first tee, Ethan has a role model to help shape not only him as a golfer, but as a person.

"Whenever he's driving we're partners so we'll switch off every 5 or three hits. If he's struggling a little bit I'll just I'll tell him what to do and he'll go right along with it," said Andrew.

While the first tee golf camp only lasts a week, its helped Andrew and Ethan build a lifelong friendship.

The next camp starts Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. To sign up or learn more, click here.
