Hogs find depth at running back

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark (THV11): Saturday the Hogs wrapped up their second week of fall camp with their first scrimmage.

This time of year it's hard to really get answers. According to every coach, all his players look great and things are awesome. No matter if that's really the truth.

If there's any place for truth to be found, it's in the numbers.

Saturday the Hogs saw notable performances by Austin Allen, La'Michael Pettway and Chase Hayden.

Allen stood out with 305 yards passing and one touchdown.  He flashed accuracy, completing 19 of 22 passes, an 86 perfect clip.

Then it was Pettway who caught two deep balls.  He totaled 165 yards and one touchdown on five catches.

Next up, at running back, it wasn't all Devwah Whaley. The freshman Chase Hayden proved the Hogs are going to be just fine on the ground.  He's both elusive and explosive, he had one 56 yard run and totaled 110 yards on 16 carries. Devwah has been the story on fall but after Saturday, it could be the unexpected depth in the backfield.

“I think the greatest thing right now is we really had some answers given to us today was behind him. David Williams and Chase Hayden showed some special things. It was fun to see when David had a play of two, the first person to congratulate him was Devwah,” said Bielema.
