UNDATED (KTHV – A new study reportedly shows that "dog people" and "cat people" really do have different personalities.

According to CBS News, traits of dog people included being more lively, and tended to follow rules closely. Cat people, on the contrary, were more introverted, open-minded, and more sensitive.

The study, conducted by researchers at Carroll University, shows that part of the reason for the differences may be related to the types of environments people prefer.

CBS quoted associate professor Denise Guastello saying, "It makes sense that a dog person is going to be more lively, because they're going to want to be out there, outside, talking to people, bringing their dog… whereas, if you're more introverted, and sensitive, maybe you're more at home reading a book, and your cat doesn't need to go outside for a walk."

More people, 60 percent in fact, reportedly said they were dog people.
