The group's 'Under the Influence' features appearances by Paul McCartney and CeeLo Green.
What started out as a college a capella group turned into a national touring musical act that does duets with Paul McCartney and CeeLo Green. Male a capella group Straight No Chaser is releasing a new holiday EP, titled Under the Influence: Holiday Edition. The Yuletide-themed collection will be released Oct. 29.
The 10-member group started out in 1996 at Indiana University. Things quickly took off, with the singers performing around the country and signing a major-label deal with Atlantic Records. As members graduated, new talent was recruited from the college. In 2008, eight of the original singers decided to reunite, along with a few members from the 2002-2003 iteration. That lineup recorded debut album Holiday Spirits, full of classic songs delivered with the SNC a capella twist.
The group's latest holiday set tackles classics such as McCartney's Wonderful Christmastime and White Christmas. But this time, Straight No Chaser is getting help from big names like the former Beatle, Green, Colbie Caillat and the late Otis Redding.
