Penn & Teller: Fool Us | CW, 8 ET/PT
The duo serve as judges in this mildly entertaining game show, which ran in Britain back in 2011. The gimmick is simple: Magicians perform in front of them, and they try to figure out the trick.
The Director's Chair | El Rey, 9 ET/PT
One director interviews another in this series starring Robert Rodriguez. Tonight he talks to one of Hollywood's most personable filmmakers, Guillermo del Toro, whose FX series The Strain is a don't-miss summer attraction.
Sharknado 2: The Second One | Syfy, 9 ET/PT
It isn't often that people look forward to a movie they expect will be terrible. But that does seem to be the case with Syfy's jokey, New York-based sequel to last year's surprise camp sensation. The good news, if you want to think of it that way, is that Sharknado 2 is indeed awful: badly acted, cheaply and cheesily produced, and almost willfully preposterous. Unlike the first film, it's also a bit too self-aware — as if we're all now supposed to be in on the joke — and far too packed with embarrassing NBC family plugs. That said, if you can make it through the long, arid stretches of dialogue, there's entertainment to be found in the gleeful silliness of the shark attacks, and in the way those flying, chomping sharks prove to be no match for enraged New Yorkers.
