UNDATED (CNN) -- Apparently, Chicken Little's theory about the sky falling isn't just a fable anymore.

Scientists say over the last decade, the height of clouds has declined.
Information for the study was collected by NASA's Terra spacecraft. It watches the Earth's clouds.

Researchers say the findings could have a big effect on global climate change.

The low clouds may help the Earth cool more efficiently and offset some of the warming caused by greenhouse gases.

The study can be found in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.
