OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - For the first time since Monday's shooting at a California college, students are being allowed to go back inside the school.
Students at Oikos University were being escorted by police officers Thursday evening to retrieve belongings they had left inside.
About a dozen students and employees had been gathering outside the university throughout the day hoping to be allowed back inside.
While they waited, a small group, with most in tears, gathered and prayed. After finishing their prayers they hugged and tried to console each other.
One of the people waiting outside was Lucas Garcia, an instructor who teaches English as a second language at the school.
He says he was teaching at the time of Monday's shooting but he and his students were able to escape unhurt.
