Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Mets made it official on Saturday and signed pitcher Jonathon Niese to a five-year contract with club options for 2017 and 2018.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but the New York Post had reported the deal to be worth $25.5 million.

Niese, coming off a season in which he went 11-11 with a 4.40 earned run average, would have been arbitration-eligible following the 2012 campaign.

The 25-year-old lefty has a 22-23 record with a 4.39 ERA over 65 games, all but one of which have been starts, in his four-year major league career, all with the Mets.
