UNDATED (CNN) -- Wal-Mart is accused of using bribery to speed up store construction in Mexico.

A New York Times report details what the newspaper says was widespread bribery used by the retail giant's Mexican subsidiary.

Wal-Mart says it is investigating its operations in Mexico to determine whether there were violations of the U.S. law that prohibits giving bribes to international officials.

The Times report says an internal review by Wal-Mart found suspect payments in Mexico totaled more than $24 million.
