LITTLE ROCK Ark. (KTHV) -- Many hunters, fishers, and outdoors folks are getting excited about the new Bass Pro Shop coming to Little Rock. The new store is slated to be built along a patch of land on 1-30 towards Mabelvale at the Otter Creek exit.
Construction is scheduled to kick off late this summer and hopes to be finished by fall of 2013. It's set to take up 30 acres and hopes to be a tourist attraction and serve as a one stop shop for outdoorsmen. With the people coming in traffic will increase in an already populated area.
"There's a plus and minus in so many ways." Paul Kroger made his home in Otter Creek 20 years ago. He is looking forward to the Bass Pro Shop coming to his neighborhood. Kroger is not alone, Elaine Wood says, "I look at it as a positive development, we'll be fine we're not afraid of traffic."
Developers hope this becomes a tourist attraction and also more development will follow suit bringing in more people. "The modifications that we'll have to make will be to ease that traffic westbound and again a secondary benefit will be easier access for the local area as well." Glenn Bolick, spokesman for the Arkansas Highway department says they already had a plan to help traffic in that area, before Bass Pro decided to move in. "From Baseline to Otter Creek, modifications will most likely have to be made and I think everybody will be happier with the results."
Bolick says they are still developing their plan to help ease traffic but so far their timeline to fix the problem is slated for 2013 until 2016.
