27th Annual Little Rock Parks & Recreation Fishing Derby at MacArthur Park, Thursday, July 19 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
The Little Rock Parks & Recreation hosts their annual fishing derby at the pond at MacArthur Park, which will be stocked for the big day with 1,500 catfish from the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission. Children ages 6-15 will only be allowed to use cane poles during the derby (i.e. no rods and reels!), and kids are encouraged to bring their own equipment and bait. A limited number of "prize fish" will be tagged and released into the pond. The first boy and girl to catch a prize fish will each win a bike.
Harry Potter Party at Central Arkansas Library System Main Library, Thursday, July 19 6:30 p.m.
In conjunction with the exhibit Harry Potters' World, the library is throwing a bash themed to the popular fantasy books. The party will feature Harry Potter-related activities for children, teens, and adults on each of the five floors of the Main Library. Party-goers of all ages can be sorted into Hogwarts houses, earn house points, watch Quidditch players, make wands, play trivia games or wizards' chess, or cast spells. Prose Garden, the library's café on the Main Library's fifth floor, will offer special Harry Potter items during the party, including Bertie Botts Every Flavor Smoothie and Rock Cakes.
Arkansas Travelers vs. Tulsa Drillers at Dickey-Stephens Park, Sunday, July 22 6 p.m.
Families will want to show up early and leave late for tonight's game. Beginning at 4:30 p.m., Travs players and coaches will hold an on-field baseball clinic for kids. Then after the team battles the Tulsa Drillers, kids can return to the field to run the bases.
Cost: $6-$12, children $4-$5, families $10 with church bulletin.
