ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (KTHV) - Today's THV anchor Matt Turner was a homegrown Arkansan with roots in Arkadelphia.

His father Gary Turner was the long-time pastor of 3rd Street Baptist Church in Arkadelphia. He passed away several years ago from leukemia. Matt was incredibly dedicated to his family. For the first two years after the passing of his father, Matt drove from Fayetteville to Arkadelphia every weekend to be with his mother Lisa and brother Andy.

THV's Lauren Scott spoke with Matt's teacher and youth pastor, Steve Patterson who says, "...Matt of course has Preslee and he was a great father and a great mentor to his brother, Andy, so family was always number one in Matt's life."

Matt played football and baseball while growing up and was a two-year starter for the Arkadelphia Badgers. This helped him play college ball in Mississippi and then back to Arkansas at OBU where he met his wife Julee.

She also spoke with Todd Knight, OBU head football coach, who says, "He was a great player and just a real good man at Arkadelphia High and that's how so many are going to remember Matt, by those football times."
