JACKSONVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) -After nearly 30 years of discussions and meetings, schools in Jacksonville and North Pulaski County are one step closer to becoming their own school district.

In April of this year, the Pulaski County Special School district filed papers for the city and schools near the area to separate from the district. This is a big step for the cause, because for years it was the PCSSD who was against this very event.

The change of heart from PCSSD is what fired up a group called Education Corps ( It's made up of about 30 citizens of the Jacksonville area and they're holding an information meeting next week.It takes placeTuesday November 13th at 7 p.m. in the Jacksonville Community Center, located at 5 Municipal Drive in Jacksonville. Education Corps is meeting to discuss and answer questions of the next steps for the process.

Some of the steps include a feasible study, and then followed by an election. Education Corps hopes the study should wrap up around the end of the year and a vote could take place next summer.
