LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Prosecutors say a former east Arkansas police officer took money from a drug trafficker and served as his escort in and around Phillips County, though the man was an informer for the FBI.
Federal prosecutor Julie Peters said Monday that evidence will show that former Helena-West Helena police Sgt. Marlene Kalb was a "dirty cop."
Kalb's lawyer, John Wesley Hall Jr. says Kalb has maintained her innocence throughout to charges of money laundering, extortion and drug-related counts.
Kalb is one of six former law enforcement officers indicted in an investigation called "Operation Delta Blues" that focused on corruption and drug trafficking in east Arkansas.
Four other former law enforcement officers have pleaded guilty to various charges in the case. Dozens of other people were also indicted.
