MAUMELLE, Ark. (KTHV) - The Pulaski County Quorum Court took action on the Lake Maumelle Watershed and passed two amendments Tuesday night.

According to Judge Buddy Villines, the amendments address concerns that restrictions will hurt landowners and that restrictions will not protect the water source, which serves 400,000 people in central Arkansas.

Originally the ordinance allowed up to 10,000 square feet of impermeable surfaces for homes to occupy, but they raised that to 15,000 square feet because of the lot size.

Villines said the second reading of the ordinance will be in January, and the third and final reading will likely be in February.

Villines added that this is a much more fair ordinance for property owners than the previous one.

The Quorum Court has spent a year working with property owners and addressing these concerns.
