MOBILE, Ala. (KTHV) - Severe weather stormed into the Mobile, Ala. area Christmas evening.

The National Weather Service said an apparent tornado was spotted near downtown Mobile.

The city's fire department tweeted that there are reports of downed power lines and tree limbs as well as damaged at a high school. Much of the region was under tornado watches and warnings on Tuesday evening.

Mobile is the location where Arkansas State University was supposed to play Kent State University in the GoDaddy.com bowl. THV 11 News currently has no information on whether the Ladd-Peebles Stadium was in the path of the storm.

Significant damages include, but are not limited to:

Murphy High School, Silverwood Street in Midtown Mobile, Williams Street, the Walgreens at the Loop, Happy Hill and the Plateau Community in Prichard, a home on Demouy Street, and minor damage at the Mobile Infirmary.

Mobile Fire and Rescue confirms the areas of Dauphin Street, Springhill Ave, and Government Street being hit hard by the storm. News 5 has crews spread out across the community.

North Mobile County is under a tornado warning until 8 p.m. If you are in the northern part of the county, seek shelter immediately.
