GARLAND COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) The Garland County Sheriff's Dept. says it received a call regarding a shooting at 1:45 p.m. Saturday at Bryant Road in Garland County.

The department says Clarence Lewis, 74, allegedly walked into the yard of his neighbor James Southard, 62, and shot him in the stomach without warning with a small caliber handgun. Authorities say Southard was able to get the handgun away from the suspect and used it to hit Lewis.

The sheriff's department says Southard was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries and the suspect was treated and released from the hospital with lacerations to the head. Lt. James Martin says the suspect refuses to cooperate.

Lewis is being charged with Criminal Attempt at 1st Degree Murder, a class A Felony, and is being held at the Garland County Detention Center.
