MORRILTON, Ark. (KTHV) - One person is dead and another is in custody following a shooting in Morrilton.

Morrilton Police Chief Sonny Stover said a 28-year-old man, who was a life-long resident of Morrilton, was shot and killed around 3 p.m. Monday. The victim was found inside near the front door of a home along Adams Streetwith two bullet wounds.

Stover saidthe suspect is aman, described in his late 20's or early 30's andalso a life-long resident of the city. Authorities found the suspect within an hour of the shooting.

"They caught him walking down the road, foot pursuit of him, chased him to apartment complex where they took him into custody," Chief Stover said.

Authorities tookthealleged shooterto the MorriltonPolice Departmentfor questioning.The suspect has yet to face any charges since the investigation is ongoing.

No names have been released for the victim or the suspect.

Stover added that a woman and an infantwere inside the house where the victim was killed, but they were unharmed. The chief said the woman was the victim's girlfriend, and he'd been living there for a while.

Police do not know what led up to the shooting, but they did say that no one else was involved.They arealso interviewing witnesses to gain more information.

The shooting happened at a home on the 200 block of Adams Street, which runs behind the Morrilton High School football field in the North Hills neighborhood behind Walmart. The close proximity to the school caused it to be locked down for a period of time.

"Because the incident was so close to Morrilton High School, the Junior High School, I immediately had them go into lockdown just make sure the children are safe," Chief Stover said.

While the incident did not occur on any school property, Dr. Annette Henderson, Superintendent of the South Conway County School District, said the school went on lockdown as a precautionary measure. Police had advised authorities to lockdown the school instead of letting students out of the building. The lockdown was lifted before 5 p.m.
