FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Univ. of Ark.) -- Beginning this Wednesday, Feb. 6, University of Arkansas men's track and field head coach Chris Bucknam will begin a lunch series open to fans, local track officials and media. The luncheons will be held at Jose's Mexican Restaurant on Dickson Street and begin at 11:30 a.m. on the first Wednesday of each month of the season.
This year's lunch events will take place Feb. 6, March 6, April 3 and May 1 with a cost of $8.95 which is payable at the door. Bucknam will be joined by his staff and members of the top-ranked Razorback team. Jose's is located at 324 W. Dickson Street in Fayetteville.
"This is a new opportunity for us as a program and we're excited about the chance to interact with the fan base," head coach Chris Bucknam said. "We wanted to take an opportunity to share more information with our fans about the program and the direction we're headed. We also think it will be a great opportunity for everybody to get to meet and know some of the guys on the team."
Through the first month of the 2013 indoor season, the Razorbacks have been the No. 1 team in the country. Arkansas has two NCAA-leading performers with Raymond Higgs in the long jump (7.95m/26-1) and Kevin Lazas in the heptathlon (6,042 points).
Additionally, the Razorbacks lead the SEC in the 800 meters (Patrick Rono), 3,000 meters (Stanley Kebenei), distance-medley relay, long jump (Higgs), triple jump (Tarik Batchelor) and heptathlon (Lazas).
After a weekend in New York, the Razorbacks return to action this weekend on their home track with the Tyson Invitational. The prestigious event will be held Feb. 8-9 with more than 40 teams represented at the Randal Tyson Track Center. Arkansas will also handle postseason duties this year as the host for the SEC (Feb. 22-24) and NCAA (March 8-9) Indoor Championships.
