LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Arkansas Business) -- Fast food numbers slow down the market in mixed trading.Numbers for McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's and even Buffalo Wild Wings all fell. This is an indicator that families are tightening their budget and staying home for meals.

Here in Arkansas, a city in the Delta isfearing it might not be able to make its payroll this week.

Sandi Ramsey, city clerk for Helena-West Helena, said in an email that she doesn't have the finances to pay city employees, according to the local Daily World newspaper.

If the money can't be raised, elected officials would be the first to forgo a paycheck on Friday.

Even with a sales tax, Ramsey says it's not enough for the city to meet its financial obligations.

The University of Arkansas goes in-house for a new vice chancellor.

G. David Gearhart, the chancellor of the University of Arkansas system, says Chris Wyrick will be his new vice chancellor for advancement.

Wyrick, who is currently the head of the Razorback Foundation, spent four years in the UA's athletic department and helped oversee the Razorback Seat Value Plan, a drive that brought in2,600 new Foundation members.

Wyrick will replace Brad Choate, who was stripped of his administrative duties when an internal audit revealed that the department was off budget by more than $3 million last year and was on track for a loss of more than $4 million this year.

A popular running shoe store getting bought by a national brand.

Gary Smith, owner of Easy Runner in Little Rock, says has sold his store to Fleet Feet Inc., billed as the nation's leading franchisor of running specialty stores.

The formal acquisition took place Wednesday though a purchase price was not disclosed.

Besides operating the store, Smith also founded the Firecracker Fast 5k, now a Little Rock Fourth of July tradition.

And Arkansas Business has some news of its own: A new publisher.

Mitch Bettis, currently the regional publisher for the publicly traded GateHouse Media, is set to join our staff on February 25.

Bettis, a Ouachita Baptist grad with a PhD from Oklahoma State, will replace Jeff Hankins as the publisher of Arkansas Business. He will also be the General Manager for Arkansas Business Publishing Group, the company that runs our newspaper as well as niche publications such as Soiree and Little Rock Family.
