LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- THV Film Critic Jonathan Nettles on what's new in theaters and a few Oscar picks.

It's Oscar weekend and while the focus is on the Best Picture nominees, there are still a couple of movies hitting theaters.

Snitch stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as a father whose teenage son is wrongly accused of drug dealing and is facing a prison sentence of 10 years. Desperate to keep that from happening "The Rock" makes a deal with the U.S. Attorney to work as an undercover informant and infiltrate a drug cartel. Snitch is based on true story, but I'm not sure how accurate it is. If they make a movie about something that I'm involved with, I think "The Rock" would be the obvious choice to star in it.

Dark Skies is a Supernatural thriller from the producer of Paranormal Activity that follows a family living in the suburbs. The family falls victim to a series of disturbing events and as their home life unravels, they learn that they have been targeted by an unimaginable force.

Many people have been asking me about my picks for the Academy Awards. I usually avoid getting into much detail because this has been an off year for me and, admittedly, I have not seen many of the nominees. That being said, here are my picks for some of the categories:
