BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) - According to Kevin Russell with the Benton Police Department, two suspects were caught while trying to rob the Benton Antique Mall.
Russell said Terry Johnson, 53, and James Deaton, 55, were caught on the property after a business alarm went off. Johnson was charged with Fleeing on Foot, Public Intoxication, Refusal to Submit to Arrest, Commercial Burglary, Theft of Property, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, and Possession of an Instrument of Crime. Deaton was charged with Commercial Burglary and Theft of Property.
Russell went on to say that Johnson was the first suspect sighted on the property and ran from police, but he was stopped and arrested soon after with the help of a K-9 Sergeant, which was injured on a barbed wire fence during the chase.
Johnson and Deaton are both on parole out of the Arkansas Department of Community Corrections, and both were taken to the Saline County Detention Facility for processing.
The burglary attempt is still under investigation, and police are asking anyone with information on it to contact the Benton Police Department at 778-1171 or 315-TIPS.
