GARLAND COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - The Garland County Sheriff's Department is asking people to keep their personal information close to their chest after a person was recently hit by a scam.
The department said a Garland County woman received a call from a person saying he was her grandson from out of state. The "grandson" said he was in Panama on a free trip and was arrested and put in jail; the only way to get him back to the states would be to send him $2,400, so he could be released.
Sheriff Larry Sanders would like to remind everyone to remain vigilant and not give identifiable information, credit card numbers, social security numbers or money to anyone over the phone, who you do not know to be legitimate, especially if you did not initiate the call.
