FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Arkansas men's track and field team is represented twice on the post-indoor release of the 2013 Bowerman Watch List, as released Wednesday by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Razorbacks hold two spots on the 10-man list with sophomore Andrew Irwin and junior Kevin Lazas, both national champions from last weekend's NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville.

Irwin successfully defended his indoor NCAA title in the pole vault with a school-record clearance of 5.70m/18-8.25 last Friday. With his performance, he became Arkansas' first back-to-back indoor national champion since 2004 when Alistair Cragg won his second-straight 3K and third-straight 5K titles. Irwin's clearance at the NCAA meet makes him the No. 8 performer in collegiate history. The Mount Ida, Ark., native began the 2013 postseason with his second SEC title in the pole vault.

Lazas won the first NCAA title of his career last weekend with his school-record performance in the heptathlon. The Brentwood, Tenn., native concluded the two-day, seven-event competition with 6,175 points, the fourth-best score in NCAA history. The score also made Lazas the No. 3 all-time collegiate performer. He established personal bests in four-60 meters, 60-meter hurdles, long jump and shot put-of the seven events at the national meet. Lazas is Arkansas' first multi-event national champion.

With Wednesday's release by the USTFCCCA, Irwin is making the fifth appearance of his career. He was part of a group receiving mention on the 2013 preseason list. Lazas' inclusion on the award watch list marks the first appearance of his career. Athletes from the SEC take up five of the 10 spots on the list.

The Bowerman, which debuted in 2009, is presented annually by the USTFCCCA to the most outstanding male and female collegiate track and field athlete in the nation. The award is named for legendary Oregon track & field and cross country coach Bill Bowerman. Past men's winners include Galen Rupp of Oregon, Ashton Eaton of Oregon, Ngoni Makusha of Florida State and Cam Levins of Southern Utah.

The Razorbacks will take a weekend away from competition before opening their outdoor season March 23 with the Texas State Quad in San Marcos, Texas.
