TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - The mayor of Texarkana, Ark., says the city manager has resigned effectively immediately as part of a mutual agreement with the city's Board of Directors.

Mayor Wayne Smith said Tuesday that Harold Boldt agreed to leave after meeting with the board of directors Monday night. No specific reason for Boldt's departure was given.

The Texarkana Gazette reports that Smith says he will recommend a nationwide search for a successor and that an interim city manager could be appointed by the end of the week.

Boldt had served as Texarkana city manager since 2005.
