CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas football Bears will host their first spring scrimmage at 3 p.m. Saturday at First Security Field at Estes Stadium.
The Bears will run approximately 120 plays with limited special teams work, according to head coach Clint Conque. UCA will work through open field, field zones and down and distance situations.
"We are obviously looking for our veterans to build on their experience and become the leaders for this group of players,' said Conque. "And we'll be putting our younger players, maybe for the first time, in live competitive situations.
"We'll try to see where we are after seven spring practices.'
The Bears, coming off a Southland Conference championship and a second consecutive second-round appearance in the NCAA Division Playoffs, have approximately 80 players going through spring practice.
"We are working on consistency,' said Conque. "This will be a big evaluation day, and an excellent opportunity to see the potential contributions of some of our young players. And it will also give us a chance to continue to indentify areas of needed improvement.'
The scrimmage is open to the public with free admission. UCA will scrimmage again next Saturday and will hold its annual Purple-Gray Spring Game at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 13.
