LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- April is Donate Life Month, and Friday night, the Arkansas Regional Organ Recovery Agency (ARORA) hosted donor families at an annual outing.
The event took place at the Little Rock Zoo and was held to give thanks to those families whose loved ones have given the gift of life. More than 500 organ and tissue donor family members took part in the celebration.
Tammy Sisemore is with ARORA and said it not only honors their loved ones but gives them an extended family for support.
"Emotions are a full range. They're bittersweet, but I think for the most part, there's a lot of gratitude, and people embrace how much their loved ones are missed and what a great impact their gifts have made," she said.
Right now, more than 117,000 people are on the national waiting list for organs. Arkansans can register to become donors at donatelifearkansas.org.
