CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) -- An interactive Earth Day town hall event for any citizen concerned about cleanup efforts and the Mayflower oil spill will be held Monday morning at the Faulkner County Natural Resource Center.
The meeting is hosted by the Faulkner County Citizens Advisory Group (FCCAG), whose mission is to promote community health and all-hazard preparedness.
The goal of the event is to facilitate networking and build relationships with the expected outcome of a prioritized list of recommended actions and a time frame for completion.
Participants will be given the opportunity to hear keynote speakers discuss a variety of topics related to the spill and health, wildlife, and environmental quality.
A continental breakfast and lunch will be served.
In a press release, event organizers called the spill "a great tragedy," and said that there is still "much to be concerned about."
"The responses from Exxon and the state of Arkansas have yet to properly address the short and long-term adverse effects to the ecosystem and human health. FCCAG will continue to strive to connect the affected residents and communities with the public servants responsible to ensure community health and safety," the statement reads.
The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. and last through 3 p.m. at 110 S. Amity Road in Conway.
