ELM SPRINGS, Ark. (KTHV) -- A big cat is causing an uproar in one Washington County community.

5NEWS reported that Elm Springs Police said Cheryl Swartout must give up her mountain lion to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission or face penalties. The wildlife rehabilitation volunteer has been keeping a mountain lion in her yard.

"I'm just scared for the kids. I'm scared for anybody that could be outside if this thing gets loose," said Swartout's neighbor, Donna Simmons. "It is very huge. My Brother in law says he would guess it's probably around 400 pounds."

Police said owning wild game such as big cats is illegal in Elm Springs. Game and Fish will take the mountain lion away Monday.
