ALBUQUERQUE NM (CBS/KRQE) -- A bear led officers on a wild chase around an Albuquerque, New Mexico neighborhood Thursday.

The video shows the bear running around people's yards and climbing fences. The search has now been called off.

The chase startedat 5 a.m.Thursday and went on for more than three hours.

Officers followed the bear into the mountains and then lost him. They've stopped tracking it because they believe the brown bear returned to nearby mountains.

Officials say bears are coming out of the mountains looking for food and water.

The Game and Fish Department believe the bear's mother let him loose and he was looking for a new home.
