SACRAMENTO, CA (CNN/KXTV) -- A California man has received two letters his father sent him and his mother during World War II. It took nearly 70 years for them to reach the right family!

Chuck Kunelis' father wrote the letters from Italy to his wife and son back in Arlington, Virginia. They were mailed but for some reason they never reached their destination.

An Australian stamp collected recently bought the letters from a dealer, and when he realized they had never been opened, he tracked down the sender's son and sent them himself.

Chuck says it was amazing to see his father's handwriting and to read his words, especially since his father never talked about his war experiences.

Chuck's wife says it's wonderful for him to have these pieces of history, since both his parents are now gone.
