AUSTIN, Ark. (KTHV) -Police are currently investigating why a woman killed her dog and tried to kill her husband.
According to Lt. James Kulesa, 58-year-old Kelley Kelley told the North Metro Hospital staff on June 22 around 5 p.m. that she overdosed her husband and killed her Boston Terrier and left its body the bath tub.
Kulesa said the 73-year-old husband told police that Kelley said, "I killed the dog, and I just killed you. You should go to the hospital." Afterward, he said, she took him to the emergency room where he was treated for an overdose of prescription medication and kept overnight for observation.
The dead dog was found inside their home on Highway 321 North, according to Kulesa. The remains of the dog were sent for examination.
Kelley was arrested at the hospital for the offenses of criminal attempt to commit murder in the first degree and aggravated cruelty to animals. She is being held at the Lonoke County Detention Facility with no bond.
