LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The Saline County Sheriff who was arrested over the weekend for public intoxication and resisting arresthas a history of alleged misconduct on patrol.

Dating back to the 1990s, Bruce Penningtonwas investigated onmultiple accusationswhileworking forthe Arkansas State Police, which he served as an officer for 20 years.

His personnel file, which THV 11 obtained from the ASP,shows that Pennington was questioned on a variety of issues including: accusations of insubordination, improper conduct with his wife, and owing money to people whom he supervised. In 1995, he was investigated for having issues with alcohol; however, a problem was not found. Arkansas State Police did offer services to him for therapy if desired.

In 1997, it was recommended that Pennington be demoted from Sergeant to Corporal, but in April 1997 the ASP decided to transfer his location of service rather than demote him. In October 1997, Pennington was suspended from the ASP for failure to transfer.

On October 27, 1997, Pennington submitted a letter wishing to retire; it is unclear at what time Pennington no longer worked for the ASP.
