McCRORY, Ark. (AP) - A memorial service is set for Wednesday for an 18-year-old woman killed in Arkansas while on a cross-country bicycling trip.

Merritt Levitan of Milton, Mass., died July 3 at a hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was of 13 cyclists traveling from Charleston, S.C., to Santa Monica, Calif., as part of a six-week trip organized by Massachusetts-based Overland.

A driver in rural Arkansas crashed into the group July 2. Overland says six other injured bicyclists have been released from the hospital.

A memorial for Levitan is planned for Wednesday afternoon in Boston.

According to her obituary, Levitan was a recent high school graduate who enjoyed tennis and skiing. She also served as managing editor of her student newspaper and planned to attend Colgate University.

A fund has been established in her honor.Merritt's Way Fund at the Boston Foundation will work with nonprofit youth-focused organizations to create opportunities for young people to lead, serve, explore values, overcome obstacles, and achieve their dreams.
