LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Diets, machines, and gimmicks are everywhere. Who doesn't want to look good when they're hitting the beach? People are fasting, dieting, and even doing extreme workouts for the promise of a bikini body, but do they really work?

"Whether it's Cross Fit or the beach body that has P90X. There's always a new one," said Greg Shaffer, owner of Health & Fitness in the Heights.

The Abs Diet for Women and The Fiber 35 Diet are two of the popular trends people are turning to to get that bikini body.

"Well the thing about both of these diets is they pretty much advocate the same thing in terms of eating healthy, cutting down on processed foods, increasing your intake of fruits and vegetables," said Betsy Day, who manages the weight control program at UAMS.

She said the diet plans can help you get results, but what they don't tell you is there really is no quick fix in terms of losing belly fat. "And, that's what they're proposing in the Abs Diet is that you're going to lose up to 12 pounds of belly fat in the first two weeks, and that's just physically almost impossible to do."

Everyone wantsthat instant gratification, but it takes a lot more than just a few sit ups to get the results thatthey want.

"A lot of people like to work out, and they think they're going to come in for a month, and then they go back to their old life style, and then they put the weight back on," added Shaffer. "Generally speaking, they think it's less than it's actually going to take."

But, he and his staff teach their clients that losing weight and getting that bikini body is not one sided. It does take dieting, but you can't stop there.

"And, then the other side of it is you do need to work out in order to maintain your muscle and then get that toned physique that you're wanting."

While watching what you eat and hitting the gym may not be the most desirable thing you want to do duringthe summer,it's what has to happento get the results you want.
