LUBBOCK, TX (CNN) -- A Texas Tech student says he was trying to send a message when he wore a pasta strainer for his official ID.

Eddie Castillo says, "I'd say the most influential point that I'm trying to make is that it teaches acceptance and it teaches a different outlook."

Castillo is a member of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Yes, you read right.

The name may sound a bit odd but this religious group actually has millions of followers.

After months of fighting state officials,Castillo was allowed to wear the strainer in his DMV photo ID.

He says that this is a political and religious milestone for atheists everywhere.
