LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Less than seven days from now, the stands at War Memorial Stadium will be packed with fans ready for some football. No, the Hogs aren't coming to town early. We're talking high school football. It's almost time for the 2013 First Security Kickoff Classic.
"Every team in the state, their goal is to get to the rock."
Four teams will have the chance to start their season in "The Rock" at War Memorial Stadium in the annual First Security Kickoff Classic.
"There's something really special about the fact that the state championship is played here. It's a great location, central Arkansas. People that want to see good high school football can come out and see," says Little Rock Christian head coach Jeff Weaver.
First time head coach Jeff Weaver will bring his Warriors to face the Rams of Hot Springs Lakeside.
"They're going to have to come up with ways as well of maybe slowing us down and not give us the big play," says Weaver.
Hot Springs Lakeside head coach Jared McBride knows the importance of playing that season opener at War Memorial.
"It's just a great atmosphere to know all the great football players and the great football games that have been played here, that we get to be a part of that also," says McBride.
All eyes will be on the rematch between reigning state champion Stuttgart and CAC.
"We're really excited. We get to hit somebody else. It seems like we've been practicing forever. I think the kids are tired of practicing; the coaches are tired of practicing. So we're ready to go play some ball," says CAC head coach Scott Norwood.
"It's one of those where we're not really sure what to expect with it being week one. We just know they're going to be a well-coached team come Tuesday night," Stuttgart head coach Billy Elmore says.
The kickoff classic will be Tuesday, September 3rd at War Memorial. Little Rock Christian will face Hot Springs Lakeside at 5 pm. The match-up between Stuttgart and CAC will immediately follow that game at 7:30.
