BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) - Faulkner County Prosecuting Attorney Cody Hiland said he is asking the Arkansas State Police to investigate the entire Saline County Sheriff's Office.

"Well it will be a pretty broad look. Obviously there are certain things that the public knows about, some questionable expenditures," said Hiland.

Hiland said the investigation was prompted by alleged issues involving not only questionable expenditures related to the department, buta patrol car missing since April.

In a letter from Hiland to the Arkansas State Police, Hiland wrote:

"I was appointed by Circuit Judge Robert Hertzfield of Saline County, Arkansas to serve as a Special Prosecutor for the two-fold purpose of determining whether the removal of Sheriff Bruce Pennington is appropriate in light of his recent criminal convictions and to conduct a criminal investigation of the Saline County Sheriff's Office related to possible improper expenditures, missing patrol car, and alleged misconduct by employees of the office.

As a result, please consider this correspondence my formal request that the Arkansas State Police open a criminal investigation associated with the allegations stated herein above."
