Tashkent, Uzbekistan (Sports Network) - Top seed Bojana Jovanovski claimed her second career WTA title with a three-set victory over Olga Govortsova in Saturday's final at the Tashkent Open.
Jovanovski rallied for a 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) triumph in 2 hours and 41 minutes to win a tournament for the second year in a row. She won her maiden title in July 2012 at Baku, and her best previous finish this year was a quarterfinal loss to Li Na in Shenzhen to open the campaign, although she also reached the fourth round of the Australian Open.
Govortsova was again denied her first WTA singles crown. The native of Belarus has eight career doubles titles, but is now 0-4 in singles finals. She previously lost to Lindsay Davenport in 2008 in Memphis, fell to Francesca Schiavone in 2009 in Moscow and came up short against Caroline Wozniacki at Ponte Vedra Beach in 2010.
Jovanovski, who played Govortsova for the first time, earned a first prize of $40,000.
