GETTYSBURG, Pa. (AP) - Nearly half of the 79 living Medal of Honor recipients are in Gettysburg for their annual convention.
The Medal of Honor Society convention gives the general public a chance to meet the men who've been honored by Congress for risking their lives beyond the call of duty in combat.
A major focus of the organization these days is its character development program for middle school and high school students promoting values such as courage and sacrifice. Recipients are meeting Friday with local students.
The Medal of Honor Society drew dozens of autograph seekers to a signing session near the battlefield park Thursday.
Other scheduled events are a town hall forum at Gettysburg College and a concert on the Gettysburg battlefield on Friday. Next year's convention will be in Knoxville, Tenn.
