LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The Libertarian Party submitted more than 16,000 signatures to the Secretary of State's office to get ballot access Tuesday.
The Libertarian Party says during the 2012 general election, more than 100,000 votes were cast for Libertarian candidates in Arkansas. However, the Libertarian Party must re-petition the state after Gary Johnson, the Libertarian presidential candidate, did not receive three percent of the vote.
Pursuant to AR Code Sect. 7-7-205, the state requires the collection of 10,000 signatures from registered voters in order for a political party to earn "new political party" status.
This status will allow the party to run candidates in any partisan race in 2014.
